Where the tests come from

Commercial batteries (WAIS, Raven SPM/APM, supervised Mensa) are copyrighted. This site only uses items that can be reproduced legally. Reflection, the 12-minute mix, and word links are original items written here. The adult ADHD page is the official ASRS v1.1 six-question screener, unchanged and not a diagnosis. Wonderlic, the Russian КОТ, Frederick’s CRT items, Mednick’s RAT, the 18-question ASRS checklist, AQ, AQ-10, and RAADS-R are not included.

ICAR-16

The International Cognitive Ability Resource is an open g battery. The 16-item sample: 4 verbal, 4 letter series, 4 matrices, 4 cube rotations.

OpenPsychometrics

25 matrix items. Each has a published correct tile (a.png), seven distractors, and 400 anonymous protocols.

Vocabulary IQ Test

45 English synonym items: from five words, pick the two that share a meaning. The short form is 15 items from the same scale, normed on the same response file.

Full Scale IQ Test, alpha

Alpha Full Scale IQ Test: 7 vocabulary items, 6 rotation figures, and 6 icon sequences. Each item has several correct answers: +1 for a hit and −1 for a wrong selection. Norms are computed from the published data.csv, n = 3,194.

Brain games

Classic tasks, written for this site: digit span, simple reaction time, pattern recall, a numeral grid (Inoue and Matsuzawa, 2007), Stroop (1935), sequence span, word recognition, n-back (Kirchner, 1958), the flanker task (Eriksen and Eriksen, 1974), concentration, and mental arithmetic. Not WAIS, and not an IQ score.

Age

Under 13 we show visual forms only: matrices, cubes, shape rotation, icon memory, figural analogies, odd-one-out pictures, comparison speed, and sequence memory. Worded items start at 13. The personality form says 18 and older, and the interest form says 14 and older. This is not a WISC substitute.

How IQ is scored

Raw score is converted to an IQ scale (M = 100, SD = 15) using the published sample mean and SD. For right-or-wrong items the interval is roughly 95% from a binomial standard error. FSIQ items score +1 for a hit and −1 for a wrong selection, and that interval uses the observed item standard deviations. Short forms have wide intervals — that is honest, not a “precise IQ 137”.
