Questions about the online IQ test

Is this an official IQ test?

No. It is not WAIS, WISC, Raven SPM, or a supervised Mensa sitting. Most items come from the public-domain ICAR battery and OpenPsychometrics archives (matrices, vocabulary, and the FSIQ alpha), with published keys and norms. Three further sets — reflection, a 12-minute mix, and word links — are original items written for this site and have no published norm sample. The result is an estimate, not a clinical score.

Can I take an IQ test online here?

Yes. Choose an age band and start in the browser. Under 13, the tests are visual: matrices, cubes, shape rotation, and icon memory. From 13, ICAR-16, an English vocabulary scale, the FSIQ alpha, and three original sets (reflection, a 12-minute mix, and word links) are available too.

Is the IQ test free?

Taking the test is free. The scored report stays locked until a $1.99 payment through Stripe. There is no way to skip the payment and still see the score. Brain games are separate, and the score there is free.

How is the IQ score calculated?

The number correct is converted to an IQ scale with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15, using the published mean and standard deviation of the norm sample. On the three original sets there is no norm sample: the mean and SD are the intended item difficulties, and the test page says so. Short forms show a wide interval. That interval is part of the result.

Which test is for a child under 13?

The matrix sets, the cube rotations, shape rotation, and icon memory. They do not use the adult word problems. This is not a substitute for WISC.

What is ICAR-16?

ICAR-16 is the 16-item sample of the International Cognitive Ability Resource: verbal reasoning, letter series, matrices, and 3D rotation. The items are public domain. On this site the full battery is offered from age 13.

Are the brain games free?

Yes. Every brain game is free for every visitor. There is no account and no payment. The score stays in this browser. It is practice for memory, speed, and attention, not an IQ report.
